Well, get ready because you know what's coming when the weather breaks: road construction!
MDOT (the Michigan Department of Transportation) has released a list of planned road construction projects happening all around Michigan this year.
Where can you expect to be impacted in your travels? Well for once, if you take I-696 to work every day, you might want to keep some aspirin with you for a headache or two.
Some of the main projects planned are:
I-696 will have some reconstruction and resurfacing going on in Oakland and Macomb counties. It's going to be a doozy too. The cost is $110,000. The roadwork in Oakland County will stretch between I-275 and I-75 and will include concrete and joint repairs and even flood mitigation efforts. Most of the work will be scheduled in the overnight hours with lane closures and complete closures during weekends. Final details are yet to be released but we do know that the project should be wrapped up by late this fall.
Throughout southwest Michigan there are various I-94 resurfacing and reconstruction projects planned that include bridge improvements.
If you like to head up north for summer fun, expect multiple resurfacing projects along I-75 in the northern Lower Peninsula.
There's going to be three miles of work on I-69 in Flint.
There's a two year overpass construction project in Grand Rapids that effects I-96 and I-196.
There's also a two US-2 bridge replacement project in the U.P. in Escanaba.
