Benny Blanco did not know what Wizards of Waverly Place was before he started dating Selena Gomez.

During the July 10 episode of Therapuss with Jake Shane, the producer confessed that he knew his fiancé was famous as a child, but did not watch the popular Disney Channel series.

"I knew she was, like, a kid star, but I had never seen any of it," he admitted. While Blanco did not watch the show, which aired from 2007 to 2012 and starred Gomez as angsty teenage wizard Alex Russo, he did know the theme song because Billie Eilish used it as inspiration for her 2019 hit, "Bad Guy."

After they started dating, the "Single Soon" sensation showed Blanco a few of her favorite scenes from Wizards of Waverly Place and caught him up to speed on her iconic Disney Channel status.

Speaking of the beloved network, Blanco also told Shane that he had no idea who the Jonas Brothers were (let alone that Gomez dated Nick Jonas in 2008) until they released Sucker in 2019 (the same year he formed a romantic connection with Gomez) because "he was older than Disney Channel's target demographic" when the brothers stepped on the scene, per Entertainment Weekly.

The Only Murders in the Building actress re-joined the Russo family in Wizards Beyond Waverly Place in September 2024 and will return for a second season this year.
