Evangeline Lilly is recovering after taking a nasty fall during a recent trip to the beach.
The Lost actress shared a blog on her Substack on Friday (May 30) detailing the gruesome injury she suffered after falling into a large rock, per Us Weekly. She also gave fans a closer look at the damage in a couple photos, documenting the large scrape on her upper lip, nose and chin.
"I fainted at the beach. And fell face-first into a boulder," she wrote, sharing pics of the gnarly injury.
The Ant-Man star went on to describe her hospital experience, getting treated for the "hole punctured into my face by the rock" while doctors worked to determine what caused her to faint. Even as medical professionals ruled out heart issues, low blood sugar and iron levels, Lilly said she knew they wouldn't find anything because she has had fainting episodes all her life.
"I have had 'absent' and fainting spells since I was a little girl," she wrote, adding that doctors have tossed around conditions like epilepsy and hypoglycemia, both of which have seemingly been ruled out as she got older.
Lilly is now sharing her own theory for being "so cognitively checked out" that doctors thought she was epileptic as a child.
"I have come to believe that this 'checking out' is a result of my little soul reaching her limit of what she feels she can cope with in this life, and she 'leaves the building,' so to speak. Or 'leaves the meat suit' might be a better way of putting it," she said. "I have watched myself closely and I am very introspective. I am a good pattern seeker as a person with eyes to see the spiritual side of life. And, it is my conclusion, after enough of these episodes and enough medical testing to rule out different factors, that my soul longs to return. That when she has had enough, when the pain becomes too great, the stresses beyond overwhelming, the shattered idealism crushing, my soul exits my body and returns to pure spirit."
The Marvel actress cited her feeling of "euphoria" and feeling "pure love, light and peace" after each of the episodes, calling them a "mini vacation" before returning to reality that help to ground her and emphasize what is most important in life, "what to stress about and what to let go of, the gift of pain and heartbreak, the truth of existence."
Lilly continued her introspection throughout the blog, questioning if souls really exist and when exactly death occurs, as she learns to "live in the mystery of not knowing."
