Kim Kardashian was robbed at gunpoint at an apartment complex in Paris in 2016, and $9 million worth of jewelry was stolen from her room.
According to NBC News, 72-year-old suspect Yunice Abbas, who "wrote a book confession to the crime," unveiled that he regretted his actions during Tuesday's (April 29) trial proceedings.
"I regret it, not because I got caught, but because ... there was a trauma." Abbas was one of 10 people charged in connection to the robbery and the "first of several defendants set to testify in the trial," which began Monday (April 28) afternoon. One of the defendants has passed away since the scary 2016 incident.
Despite writing a book titled I Kidnapped Kim Kardashian in 2021, Abbas confirmed that he had no choice in the title and was not involved in tying up The Kardashians star as he kept watch downstairs.
Robbing Kardashian is not the first criminal act Abbas has committed. During the trial, the suspect revealed he robbed a bank in Belgium and spent two decades in jail for additional crimes. While on the stand, he explained that he turned to a life of crime because he believed it was necessary to support his children after facing financial difficulties, per NBC News.
The suspect remarked on how "uneasy" he felt about the crime and that there's nothing else he can do now "besides apologize."
