Janet Jackson Breaks Down Onstage After Singing About Domestic Abuse

It's only been a few days since Janet Jackson kicked off her State Of The World tour and it's already had many impactful moments that have gone viral.

One of the most recent, memorable times during her tour took place during her show in Houston on Saturday (Sept. 9). Jackson was performing her song “What About” from her 1997 project, The Velvet Rope, when she suddenly broke down in tears. The emotional track details a person's encounter with domestic violence.

“What about the times you yelled at me? / What about the times I cried?,” she passionately sang. “You wouldn’t even hold me / What about those things?/ What about that, what about that? / What about the times you hit my face? / What about the times you kept on when I said, ‘No more please’ / What about those things?”

After Jackson sang these words, she put her left hand over her face and started to cry. “This is me,” the performer told the audience who tried to console her. Watch this moment below.

The star is now going through a divorce with estranged husband, Wissam Al Mana, whom she was married to for five years. The former couple have an 8-month-old son named Eissa
